A Poffessional Demeanor Demands Gleeming White Teeth

Excuse me sir! Yes! – I’m trying to get to Independence to go to church with my parents – can you give be a dollar and a half. It was a lie. I knew it, but reached into my pocket anyway. I can give you a dollar. Out of here. I’ve told you not to come back before – and the barista points to the door. Thank you. Thank you. He is smart enough to know how to ingratiate himself. Thank you, he says as he departs. But once outside he hollers – but are you really kind. He tries to make a touch on another homeless man. Later he returned. I didn’t see him come in – he has himself locked in the restroom. The barista uses his key – security has been called to remove you from these promises. Ah man! What is wrong? What did I do? I told you earlier not leave and not to come back. Ah man, you’ll get what you deserve, and he leaves. There is a coherence to his Sunday morning lies that is not evident in his behavior as he tries to play out his narrative in some other place no doubt.

A knowledge which does not build its foundation knowledgeably, and thereby notes its limits, is no knowledge but opinion – Martin Heidegger - Basic Writings p 278 – Such is the problem of economics

Another night of storms – the Little Blue and Indian Creek have flooded – Street closure barricades are up – the power did not come back on until this morning – the sump pumps did not operate – Flash flood watch in effect unto 1PM CDT this afternoon.

Like the terrorist, the sex offender is a new category of human being – JoAnn Wypijewski – The Nation [Feb 8, 2010] p7 – but not a being totally unlike the heretic and the witch of yore – someone for whom it is not unjustified to torture.

Neo-Capitalism – if you take a risk and you win you win and if you take a risk and you lose you still win – those without choice must pay – those without any choice must always pay

And the night withdraws its claws like a leopard – Vicente Huidobro – The Selected Poetry of, 1981 p107

An earthworm processes 15 tons of dry soil per year

At the far end of dawn / A spider with steel-wire legs / made its web of clouds // My little boy / To climb the Eiffel Tower / You climb up a song – Vicente Huidobro – The Selected Poetry of, 1981 p19

It takes 4,000 gallons of water to produce a bushel of corn and 11,000 gallons to produce a bushel of wheat

For anyone with the money – or the insurance policy – to pay for it, American medical treatment ranks with the best on earth. That’s why seriously rich people all over the world tend to board their private jets and race to some famous American clinic when they face a medical emergency – T R Reid – The Healing of America, 2009 p29

Prairie dogs can distinguish a person carrying a gun from a person who is not carrying one and they can communicate to the colony which man is approaching.

The psychological motivation instilled by a class society is to heal a doubt about the self rather than create more power over things or other persons in the outer world – Richard Sennett – The Hidden Injuries of Class, 1972 p171

White Teeth are for  Lying With: The Lamb with the Lion
On her luxuriant barge of a pleasure palace
      Floating down the Nile
She returns to the scene of her benevolence

To accept your adulation; to be condescended to
And not everyone who knows how to smile
               Does
But those who know to ingratiate themselves
               Do

It’s the latest fashion – pearly white teeth
There is a lot of white in those dark faces
Smile – the surveillance cameras are being monitored
And by the way – have a nice day
         Said  with professional politeness
Better not reach for an AK – You’re in our crosshairs
Smile, goddamn you, smile!
You’ll show those pearly white teeth
If you know what’s good for you

Good timing – a temporal phenomenon central to all sports, not just those regulated by clock time – refers to cases of perfect fusion between a perception of space and the interaction of movement. Timing is the intuitive capacity to bring one’s body to a specific place at the very moment when it matters to be there – Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht – In Praise of Athletic Beauty, 2006 p198

Some do the wrong things for the right reasons – some do the right things for the wrong reason and no one is happy and there is never any resolution
